Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Groundbreaking

November 14, 2006

King-and-Bush-3.jpgMartin Luther King III attended the groundbreaking for the Washington, D.C. memorial to his father, Martin Luther King Jr., on November 13. The monument is being built on a four-acre spread between the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials where King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. The unique memorial will preserve King’s legacy for future generations and will honor his message and words of nonviolence and civil rights for all. The groundbreaking, which was conducted by President Bush, was attended by many luminaries, including many members of the King family, Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, Reverend Jesse Jackson and Reverend Al Sharpton.

In continuing to honor his father’s legacy, King III has formed the organization Realizing the Dream, which will continue efforts to end poverty across racial lines. Since May, King has been meeting with community leaders throughout the country to discuss and explore ideas for combating poverty. He is also set to meet with over 200 leaders in Washington, D.C. to continue to explore ways to make Realizing the Dream successful. As he continues his father’s work to end global poverty, King III is bringing this unresolved issue to the forefront of politics in the United States. Keppler Speakers is proud to represent King III, and we are looking forward to the progress Realizing the Dream will make in the fight against poverty.
