When Captain James Lovell uttered the phrase, “Houston, we have a problem,” he was fighting for his life and the lives of his crew on Apollo 13. He never anticipated the resonance those words would have on history. Demonstrating the power of teamwork, Lovell and Mission Control Director Gene Kranz were able to guide the ship back to Earth, averting disaster. In their speeches, Lovell and Kranz recount how Apollo 13 was “a successful failure” because of the collective courage, spirit, and will to survive.
In his 21 seasons in the Major Leagues, Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. broke several records, but none as cherished as Lou Gehrig’s consecutive-games-played. Finally sitting out after 2,632 games, Ripken solidified his place as a baseball legend. In riveting presentations, Ripken personifies dedication, leadership, and excellence, showing audiences what it takes to fulfill their goals and become champions in their field.
Following the murder of his son Adam, John Walsh turned personal tragedy into a crusade for justice. The host of the nation’s longest-running primetime program, America’s Most Wanted, and the leading force behind the Missing Children’s Act, Walsh is recognized for his influential work with advocating for children, and was named one of the “100 Americans Who Changed History” by CBS Portraits. Living proof that one person can make a difference, he inspires individuals to follow their passion.
