Activist Barbara Martinez Jitner Premieres Bordertown in Mexico

June 16, 2008

Meet Barbara Martinez Jitner who risked her life to expose the mass murder of 400 women.

Death threats have been made against the award-winning filmmaker and her film Bordertown. Martinez Jitner is the real life hero of this Jennifer Lopez movie, based on the true story of the murdered women of Juarez, Mexico. These unsolved murders have gone on for 15 years with not one person convicted of the crimes. Only weeks ago another young woman was found raped, murdered and harvested of her organs in Juarez.

The killers have gone to extreme lengths to stop the movie and silence the truth by sending death threats, kidnapping and torturing the film’s crew members, and stealing footage and cameras. Most recently by shooting the movie’s billboards with machine guns at its premiere in Mexico in an attempt to terrorize people and stop them from seeing the film.

See the movie, learn the truth and make a difference in helping stop violence against women by bringing Martinez Jitner to your campus. Amnesty International endorses Bordertown and partial proceeds from each speech benefits Amnesty International and the Women of Juarez.
