Environmental Speaker Jerome Ringo Tackles the Civil Rights Issue of the 21st Century

Bite into Shark Week with Environmental Speaker Céline Cousteau

Discovery Channel’s Shark Week is back, and Keppler Speakers’ filmmaker and environmental speaker Céline Cousteau provides the grand finale on July 31st at 9:00 PM EST with the premiere of her documentary, Mysteries of the Shark Coast. Cousteau and her team explore the northeastern coast of Australia, working together on the largest shark tagging expedition in Australian history. Cousteau is determined to discover the cause of the mysterious disappearance of sharks in the region.

Witness “A Jihad for Love” with Speaker Parvez Sharma

Director of the critically-acclaimed documentary A Jihad for Love, diversity speaker Parvez Sharma is an Indian-born gay Muslim who explores the cultural experience of gay Muslims facing persecution in many Islamic countries. As the film opens in new cities around the country each week, and with continuing cultural tensions between gay and straight culture in both Islam and the West, Sharma’s lectures illuminate some of the most important issues of the day. He has committed his life to traveling the world to spread his message of tolerance.

Speaker Evan Wright’s “Generation Kill” Premieres on HBO

Beginning July 13th at 9:00 PM EST, HBO will present a seven-part miniseries event, Generation Kill, based on the critically acclaimed best-selling book by speaker Evan Wright. Written for television by the creators of The Wire, Generation Kill brings to life Wright’s frontline reporting on the first weeks of the Iraq War. A moving, realistic portrayal of the inner lives of soldiers, Generation Kill is one of the most anticipated television experiences of the year.

Film co-writer and Emmy Award-winner David Simon calls Generation Kill, “the best military journalism to come out of the Iraq War,” and Evan Wright’s eyewitness account of Marine combat has won him numerous awards, including the L.A. Times Book Award and a 2005 PEN USA Award.

A Mission to End World Hunger with Speakers George McGovern and Bob Dole

Senator George McGovern and Senator Bob Dole are two of the world’s most ardent supporters of efforts to end hunger worldwide. As world food shortages cause prices to spiral out of control, their humanitarian efforts are more vital today than ever before.

Political Speaker Senator George McGovern.jpgAs the first director of the Food for Peace Program and as the first United Nation’s Ambassador on World Hunger, Senator McGovern has been working for more than 30 years to help feed the hungry. As Senate Majority Leader, Bob Dole routinely crossed the political aisle to sway Congress to provide more aid to those less fortunate. Keppler Speakers is proud to announce that Senators McGovern and Dole were named the 2008 winners of the World Food Prize, for bridging party lines to alleviate hunger and promote education to the world’s poorest children.

According to Kenneth Quinn, the director of the World Food Prize Foundation, the McGovern-Dole program has led to “dramatically increased international support” for similar global plans, and has made a unique and demonstrable difference in the quest to end childhood hunger.

Exploring the power of individuals to make change, Senators McGovern and Dole showcase how it is possible to broach differences of opinions and policy to create a better world.
