Senator George McGovern and Senator Bob Dole are two of the world’s most ardent supporters of efforts to end hunger worldwide. As world food shortages cause prices to spiral out of control, their humanitarian efforts are more vital today than ever before.

Political Speaker Senator George McGovern.jpgAs the first director of the Food for Peace Program and as the first United Nation’s Ambassador on World Hunger, Senator McGovern has been working for more than 30 years to help feed the hungry. As Senate Majority Leader, Bob Dole routinely crossed the political aisle to sway Congress to provide more aid to those less fortunate. Keppler Speakers is proud to announce that Senators McGovern and Dole were named the 2008 winners of the World Food Prize, for bridging party lines to alleviate hunger and promote education to the world’s poorest children.

Political Speaker Senator Bob Dole.jpgThe McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program has provided food for 20 million children in 41 countries, and as a result, has helped boost school attendance rates by 14%. According to Kenneth Quinn, the director of the World Food Prize Foundation, the McGovern-Dole program has led to “dramatically increased international support” for similar global plans, and has made a unique and demonstrable difference in the quest to end childhood hunger.

Exploring the power of individuals to make change, Senators McGovern and Dole showcase how it is possible to broach differences of opinions and policy to create a better world.
