Pride, the Jim Ellis Story in Theaters Now!

EllisPride.jpgJim Ellis’ life is evidence of the power of dreams and the ability to change and impact lives. Pride, a film based on the life of Keppler Speaker Jim Ellis, was released in theaters Friday, March 23. Pride follows Ellis, played by Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard, as he founds the P.D.R. swim team in inner city Philadelphia in 1971. At the time, the idea of a predominantly African-American swim team was very unusual, and the white-dominated sport was not very accepting or open. The teens on Ellis’ team faced many obstacles, including poverty and racism, but they fought against them to become one of the top teams in the country.

Jim Ellis’ work has had a lasting impression on the world of swimming and the youth of Philadelphia. His efforts have helped to change the face of swimming for the better. Ellis continues to run the P.D.R. team, and his passion for swimming and for helping teens has made it one of the most popular swim programs in the country.

Ellis’ lectures are moving and inspirational testaments to the power of positive thinking and motivation. He discusses what it took to create the team, and how he persevered against the odds to not only win championships, but to win the loyalty and devotion of aspiring swimmers everywhere.
