America Debates Immigration Policy
June 22, 2006
The United States is a nation of immigrants. In the 19th and early 20th century America’s immigrant population was primarily European. In recent decades, immigrants coming to America are increasingly from Latin America and Asia. Now Congress and the President are debating how the nation should handle the immigration issue. Do we really need a fence along the Mexican border? Is a guest worker program a viable solution to the millions of immigrants who seek work in the US? Should we offer amnesty to illegal immigrants already in the country working and raising families? The speakers listed below can discuss these controversial questions.
