Inspirational Speaker Christopher Gardner Honored by Covenant House

Christopher Gardner, the best-selling author of The Pursuit of Happyness and the inspiration for the Academy Award-nominated film starring Will Smith, will be honored at the Covenant House Light the Night Gala on Tuesday, June 3rd. Covenant House is the largest privately funded agency in the United States providing services to homeless children. By honoring Gardner, the organization hopes to show the children they help that they can overcome their own personal adversities and pursue their dreams.

On the Light the Night Gala, Gardner says, “I am honored by join Covenant House in its mission to help homeless youth. My son and I know the importance of having a safe haven to turn to - a place that has the services and the heart to help you get your life pointed back in the right direction.”

Celebrity Speaker John Walsh Opening New Museum in Washington

John Walsh, the host of America’s Most Wanted, is the co-owner of the National Museum of Crime & Punishment, Washington, DC’s newest museum. Exploring the history of crime, law enforcement, forensic science, and the consequences of crime, the museum pays tribute to the men and women who keep the streets safe for ourselves and our families. In exciting exhibits focusing on American crime and punishment, the museum, which opens on Friday, May 23rd, is an incredible, unique educational experience.

The museum is also home to the exhibit “America’s Most Wanted: John Walsh’s Personal Story,” which recounts the murder of his son and his lifelong quest for justice for all. America’s Most Wanted, which is the longest-running primetime show in history, will also film year round at the museum.

Walsh is a widely recognized crusader and advocate for children and the lobbying force behind the Missing Children’s Act. Speaker Peter Hillary Celebrates His Father’s Summit of Everest

For the 55th anniversary of Edmund Hillary’s summit of Mount Everest on May 29th, his son, climber and adventurer Peter Hillary, will be commemorating the accomplishment in the Himalayas. Celebrating at Tengboche Monastery at 13,000 feet, he will be raising funds for schools and hospitals in the Everest region and throughout the mountains, as part of continuing efforts to give back to the people that make climbing Everest possible.

Part of Hillary’s trip to the Himalayas is also to help acclimatize for his next adventure, a summit of Mt. McKinley in Alaska. McKinley will mark his Seventh Summit, the greatest accomplishment in mountain climbing.

Continuing the legacy of his father, Peter Hillary draws parallels between personal challenges and the challenges that confront climbers of every mountain. His inspiring speeches show audiences how to achieve their goals, survive crises, and reach the summit of their own personal lives.

Everest Speaker David Breashears’ Film Premieres on PBS This Tuesday

Everest speaker David Breashears’ film Storm Over Everest, which recounts the tragic 1996 storm that trapped three climbing teams on the slopes of the mountain, premieres on PBS this Tuesday, May 13th at 9:00 EST, as part of PBS’ Frontline series. A dramatic retelling of that legendary climb, the film is a remarkable testament to the men and women who worked to rescue climbers and save lives. With interviews and reenactments, Breashears sheds new light on the worst climbing tragedy in Everest history.

David Breashears is one of the world’s most respected mountain climbers. His courage, skill, and quick thinking in the face of danger and tragedy is a testament to the true definitions of heroism and survival.
