October 17, 2008

On Thursday, October 16, two of the world’s most ardent supporters of efforts to end worldwide hunger, Senators George McGovern and Robert Dole, were awarded the 2008 World Food Prize for their McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program. Through the Program, they have helped provide food for 20 million children in 41 countries, and as a result, have helped boost school attendance rates by 14%. The director of the World Food Prize Foundation, Kenneth Quinn, comments that the Program has led to “dramatically increased international support” for similar plans, and has made a unique and demonstrable difference in the quest to end childhood hunger.
