Since premiering in May at the Cannes Film Festival, The War has garnered incredible public attention. An epic account of World War II, the film tells the story of the greatest conflict in history through the personal recollections of men and women from four quintessential American towns. Exploring the human dimension of combat, a diverse group of veterans describe the experience of war from Omaha Beach to Guadalcanal, and recount their experiences returning home after war.

Burns is one of the most respected filmmakers and speakers in the United States today. From Baseball to The Civil War and Jazz, his documentaries have exposed millions of viewers to the richness of history. Of his work, Burns has said, “In a sense, I’ve made the same film over and over again. In all of them I’ve asked, ‘Who are we as Americans?’” In his films and presentations, viewers and listeners see themselves in the past, reflecting on what it means to be an American today. A distinguished speaker, Burns has set a standard for historians, celebrating the American experience and what makes the country unique.
