John Amaechi’s participation at last weekend’s NCAA National Conference in Nashville is another in a long line of prestigious events that he has been asked to speak at in recent months. His panel discussion at the NCAA conference was geared towards college athletes, coaches, and athletic directors. Titled “Time Out: A Conversation About Including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Student Athletes,” the panel featured Amaechi along with Neil Guiliano, the president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and Laurie Priest, the director of athletics at Mount Holyoke College.
