About Heather Rae

In her 20 years in the film industry, Heather Rae has produced more than a dozen documentaries and a half dozen feature films. Most recently, she produced the Academy Award-nominated Frozen River, which won the 2008 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize and the Producer of the Year Award at the Spirit Awards.

Heather Rae formerly ran the Native Program at the Sundance Institute, where she nurtured the work of more than 50 emerging Native American screenwriters and filmmakers, and also served as a programmer for the Sundance Film Festival. Her Cherokee heritage has featured prominently in her production choices, as she has worked on such films as Trudell, The Native Americans, and Silent Tears. Her work documenting the Native American experience makes her an invaluable and unique diversity speaker.
