About Linda Greenlaw
The real-life hero of Sebastian Junger’s novel-made-movie, The Perfect Storm, Linda Greenlaw is one of the few women in the world of commercial fishing. As the only female swordfish boat captain in the world, she has spent a lifetime proving herself to peers and critics alike. Through skilled leadership, teamwork, and incredible crisis management skills, Greenlaw has become, in the words of Junger, “one of the best swordboat captains, period, on the East Coast."
Linda Greenlaw has also demonstrated her talent as an author. Her best-sellers include, The Hungry Ocean; The Lobster Chronicles; and All Fishermen Are Liars, which won the 2003 U.S. Maritime Literature Award. Her book Recipes from a Small Island, is a collection of New England-style dishes that she wrote with her mother. She has also written the murder mystery Slipknot, the first in a new page turning series. Her most recent book is the memoir Seaworthy: A Swordboat Captain Returns to Sea.
Greenlaw has captained boats from Newfoundland to Brazil. She currently works on her own boat, lobstering in the water around her home on Isle Au Haut, a small island off the coast of Maine.
