03/12: Acumen Fund Founder and “TIME” Responsibility Pioneer Jacqueline Novogratz Appears on CNN, PBS

Philanthropic visionary Jacqueline Novogratz is embarking on a major media tour this month, appearing on some of the biggest platforms in the world, touting the work of her humanitarian organization, the Acumen Fund.

Addressing global poverty by using entrepreneurial approaches, Novogratz’s Acumen Fund uses a market-oriented method of charitable giving, and shows that small amounts of capital yield big results.

One of Foreign Policy’s “Top 100 Global Thinkers” and a regular speaker at the esteemed TED Conference, Jacqueline Novogratz has made a true impact on philanthropy as we know it. Her book, The Blue Sweater: Bridging the Gap Between Rich and Poor in an Interconnected World, has brought her message of social investment to a broad audience, and has inspired many to rethink the meaning of poverty.

  • On Sunday, March 14th at 10:45 AM EST, Novogratz will speak at the Daily Beast Women in the World Conference.   • At 3:00 PM EST on Thursday, March 18th, Novogratz will sit with CNN’s chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour, on her self-titled show. The episode will focus on Acumen Fund’s work in Pakistan, and showcase a different side of the country not typically reflected in the media.
  • Finally, the week of March 22nd (official date coming soon), PBS’ NewsHour travels to Kenya with Novogratz, for a firsthand look at Acumen’s impact in Nairobi.

03/08: Barrier-Breaking Journalist Betty Nguyen Joins CBS News

Betty Nguyen, the first Vietnamese-American to anchor a national news broadcast in the United States, is starting a new chapter in her career, and joining CBS News. Last week, the network announced her new role as a correspondent for the Early Show and as the anchor of CBS Morning News. Known for her award-winning coverage of everything from the recent earthquake in Haiti to the Virginia Tech massacre and the death of Pope John Paul II, Nguyen brings years of award-winning experience to CBS, where she will be a fixture of morning broadcasts.

More than a journalist, Betty Nguyen is also longtime philanthropist, and a member of the Philanthropy in Texas Hall of Fame. The co-founder of Help the Hungry, a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian aid to poverty-stricken families, she is dedicated to helping those less fortunate, and uses her television platform to help advocate for those in need.
