About Paul Whelan

Paul Whelan offers audiences something rare: a firsthand understanding of what it takes to function, adapt and persevere when nearly everything is beyond your control.

Arrested in Moscow in December 2018 while attending a friend's wedding, Paul spent 2,043 days wrongfully detained in Russia before returning to the United States in August 2024.

Before his detention, Paul served in the U.S. Marine Corps and built a career in corporate security, most recently as Director of Global Security for BorgWarner, with responsibilities around the world. Today, he works with government leaders on wrongful detention and the challenges former hostages face after returning home.

From corporate security to a Russian prison to the halls of government, Paul's journey gives audiences a perspective on risk, resolve and human endurance that simply cannot be learned from a textbook.
