One of the most influential voices in British politics and healthcare policy, Camilla Cavendish, is the self-described outside journalist who not only went into government but became a Right Honorable member of the House of Lords.

As a weekly Financial Times op-ed columnist and leading authority on geopolitics, Cavendish moves fluidly from topics such as healthcare policy, Brexit and world affairs to global response on the coronavirus outbreak. As a Senior Fellow in Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School, she researches demographic challenges, how our aging society is shifting the balance of power and the societal effects of our aging population.

In 2013, she was asked to lead an “Independent Review into Healthcare Assistants and Support Workers in the NHS and Social Care Settings.” She wrote the Cavendish Review that year, which recommended NHS and social care training standards and introduced a “Certificate of Fundamental Care.”

While at 10 Downing Street, Cavendish was an integral advisor on government policies and initiatives. Most notably, she led the work that persuaded Prime Minister David Cameron to adopt the so-called “sugar tax”—a measure that she also authored—helping cut the sugar consumed in drinks by the UK population by 29% in its first year. Upon leaving Downing Street, she became a member of the House of Lords.

Cavendish draws on her book, Extra Time: 10 Lessons for an Aging World, to examine the political and social effects of a globally aging population. She explores everything from healthcare's use of artificial intelligence and robots in prolonging life to how companies cope with managing a workforce spanning four generations. She offers her highly regarded perspective on shifting healthcare systems from the post-WWII “break & fix” model to the more contemporary method of “prevent & care.”
